In order for makeup to look flawless, you need to be sure to pick out the right colors. And how do you do that? It’s all about the UNDERTONES, my dears. They play a huge part on how well different products look on you. Hopefully you’ve read our last post which helps you determine your undertone. Once you have all that information, you’re bound to look flawless in no time!
COOL UNDERTONES
If you have cool undertones, then you should choose your eye shadow, blush, and lip colors from the cool color family. The cool color family is your pinks and roses and also includes fuchsias, violets, lavenders, grapes, cherries and wines. Pinks and roses are good for cool to neutral skin tones.
NEUTRAL UNDERTONES
If you have neutral undertones, then you should choose your eye shadow, blush, and lip colors from one of the neutral color families. Mauves and berries are considered neutral. Mauves and berries also include: mauves, berries, plums, burgundies, lilacs, and cranberries. Mauves and berries are good for cool to neutral skin tones but leans more toward neutral.
Corals and reds are also considered neutral. Corals and reds include: peaches, corals, oranges, brownish reds, tawnies, apricots, and all shades of red except for the bluish reds, which are considered cool. Corals and reds are good for neutral to warm skin tones but leans more toward the neutral.
WARM UNDERTONES
If you have warm undertones, then you should choose your colors from the warm color family. The beiges and browns are considered warm colors and include browns, bronzes, golds, mochas, taupes and spices. Beiges and browns are good for warm to neutral skin tones.
TRICKS OF THE TRADE
Eye shadow is a very important part of makeup and can help you look fabulous if you use the right colors for your skin. When picking out colors remember that if you want a natural look, you should always go for colors that would mimic a real shadow in your skin. If your goal is to make your eyes stand out, use colors that contrast your eye color. And if you’re wondering if black looks good on you, it looks good on anyone! It goes with every skin tone and can create a really dramatic look. And lastly, if you just want to go all out and be artistic… do what makes you happy!
SELECT THE PERFECT HAIR COLOR
If you’re in the warm side of the spectrum, you should try going for colors that have a golden tint to them. Since gold enhances your skin tone, choosing it for your hair should give you a beautiful glow. And if you have cool tones, try ash blondes or champagne. Also darker hues like light brown or dark brown to bring out the best out of your skin.
LET’S BE HONEST
Makeup is about letting your personality shine through, so always know that these are guidelines to help you get started. Once you have yourself a little more figured out, don’t be afraid to try out new things and be adventurous. Trends come and go and there is nothing stopping you to try them if that is what you wish. Beauty is something that shines from within so as long as you feel beautiful, you’ll look it!
